September 7, 2009 - We are in Germany!! We left Fortaleza Saturday at 8:00AM, and arrived to Frankfurt at 2:00PM on Sunday.. A long day and a half of travel.
I have been told by some, and also read, that English is pretty well spoken all throughout Germany.. I went out yesterday in Frankfurt while Ana rested and visited a pub, grocery store, and greek restaurant - none of them spoke english.. I had studied a tiny bit of German while we were in England, luckily a little bit of it must have sunk in, as I was able to at least sound like a moron trying to say German words. I now realize I am going to need to learn a lot more German, which I am excited about.
One thing that's been tough about that since we've got here is that when I'm trying to think of a word to say while speaking, I immediately want to say it in Portuguese. Something else interesting occurred to me yesterday - I've now spent a total of about 3 months in Brazil, and though I by no means sound very good speaking their language, I can at least converse a little. What occurred to me, however, is that we will be spending almost 3 months in this area; I'll be interested to see how much German I pick up in this time. One thing's for certain - I imagine I'll be fluent in all words that are bier or pub-related..
