!להתראות ירושלים (Goodbye Jerusalem)

Monday, August 30, 2010 - Tomorrow, we leave Jerusalem with a heavy heart. But with much in front of us. First, we will stay with my family near Netanya, which is a pure delight. I still can't believe how close we've become with them in such a short time, it really is a marvel. We then leave for Turkey (Istanbul) Wednesday night.

Obviously, Jerusalem is a special place. And for Ana and I even moreso, as this will always be the place we got married, and as a marriage gift, a truly divinely orchestrated ceremony. We've also made friends we will keep in touch with and likely see for the rest of our lives. And personally, I wanted to learn to read, write, understand (a little), and speak (a little) Hebrew, and the academic experience I received was even far more than I expected. I think I speak for Ana when I say we're forever grateful for everything we experienced here, and consider Israel a home among homes. Indeed, I don't think it will be too long before we return.

Fyi, if you have any interest in visiting Israel, there's really no reason you shouldn't. It's a fascinating place, and in our 3 months here, we never felt unsafe.

European Leg IV
Leg I took us 3 months through England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. Leg II took us 3 months through Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, Holland, Austria, and Switzerland. Leg III took us 3 months through Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, and a 2 month rest in Israel.

Leg IV will now take us through Turkey, Montenegro, Croatia, Prague, Poland, Germany, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. This will be a new venture into Slavic languages, so I'll soon begin learning Polish (the majority of our stay in Slavic-speaking countries). Hopefully this will help when we try to locate and visit the little Polish village where my grandfather was born. Of course, for all I know it may just make things worse..
Join us, as we prepare to freeze our heinies off..

Lahitra'ot Yerushalayim!
