Exiting Our Comfort Zone

Wednesday, June 16, 2010 – This morning we left London to enter what I can only imagine will be a whole new world. Regardless of how much any of us have travelled, none of us have experienced anything but Western culture. We now go taste Eastern culture.

I am writing from 37,000 feet in the air, headed for Tel-Aviv. About 30 minutes ago, Chasidic, Orthodox, and Liberal Jews began heading up toward the cockpit of the plane, one-by-one, until there was a small, packed crowd of them in front of the cockpit. I have to be completely honest, at first I was a bit concerned as to what was going on, until they all began praying. Apparently this was the afternoon prayer, and since it was a public one, Judaism requires at least 10 Jewish men in order for it to be “Minian”. It really was quite a cool & refreshing sight to see such a peaceful, devoted, public demonstration.
